DJ James Nasty, 32, has been producing and recording music since 2003.

The Prince George's County native, who now resides in Mount Vernon, has had the opportunity to play music all over the country, and has heard his songs played on Baltimore radio stations. On New Year's Eve, DJ Nasty will host the Ottobar's free upstairs NYE party, along with DJ Safe Sex.

"I think people expect to have this euphoric evening leading up to a climax at midnight. I think people want to bookend their year with good times, with good friends," Nasty said. "Our goal for New Year's Eve is to not only build up to midnight but to build up energy again on into the early hours of the New Year." He said to expect lots of dancing, sing-alongs and plenty of sweat at the event. "Wait, Beyonce. There will be lots of Beyonce. Everyone loves Beyonce right now," Nasty added. Before DJ Nasty drops a beat, he spoke to us about the best and worst songs to play at a New Year's Eve party, "Van Wilder," and the most rewarding part of his job.

Worst pet peeve? There's been lots of racially-charged news events this year, which has led to an overload of commentary from everyone. I'm really fed up with narrow-minded, bigoted, judgmental, ignorant, or entitled people. There really should be no tolerance of that in 2013/2014 America.

What song/songs are you loving/hating right now? If I'm listening to pop radio and "Clarity" by Zedd comes on, I change the station immediately!

Last concert/gig you went to? My favorite band in Baltimore, Brooks Long & The Mad Dog No Good.

Your worst habit? I thought I was finally adult enough to have a credit card and not go crazy with it...

Trend that has exceeded its natural lifespan? It's hard to choose one. Facebook, pumpkin-flavored everything, pretzel rolls and … WTF is this Grey Thursday nonsense!?!?

Last movie you liked/disliked? Seeing "The 12 O'clock Boys" during the Maryland Film Festival was awesome. I hope I didn't cause too much of a scene when the part with my song came on.

TV show(s) you can't get enough of? I hate having to admit this publicly but I'm going to have to go with "'Ke$ha: My Crazy Beautiful Life'" on MTV.

Favorite and most loathed fashion statement? Not a fan of ugly X-mas sweaters. Can we not do that again next X-mas? Or spikes and studs on high heel shoes, Ladies, no, stop that! I fully support yoga pants however!

Favorite place to get a drink in Baltimore? Sticky Rice in Fell's Point.

Best advice you ever got? "Always take a pre-game dump" from the film, "Van Wilder." You can't really walk away from the DJ booth to take an extended bathroom break during a party. And you don't really want to be that guy who went No. 2 in the club anyways.

Favorite/least favorite part of being a DJ? Favorite: I get paid to party with people for a living. They put their trust in me to play songs that will be the soundtrack to them having the time of their lives. And when you see it all unfolding in front of you, it's pretty rewarding. Least favorite: There's no paid days/night's off for DJs.

Best/worst song to play at a New Year's Eve party? Best: "Sleigh Ride" by TLC. Worst: "New Year's Day" by U2. Honorable Mention: "1999" by Prince and "The Final Countdown" by Europe ... in certain situations.
