Dez Wells to face mentor, family friend in Terps' next game

Maryland meets N.C. Central on Tuesday

December 29, 2013|By Jeff Barker | The Baltimore Sun

When Maryland plays its next game on Tuesday, Terps swingman Dez Wells will be competing against a mentor and family friend in North Carolina Central coach Levelle Moton.

North Carolina Central is located near where Wells, a junior, grew up in Raleigh.

Moton helped Wells during a difficult period when the player was expelled from Xavier following a sexual assault  allegation that a prosecutor said was unproven.

"You're talking about an emotional rollercoaster," Moton told me earlier this year about Wells’ journey.

Wells, who transferred to Maryland before last season, has since filed suit against Xavier, saying its investigation was flawed.

North Carolina Central is no pushover. The Eagles are 7-3 and defeated North Carolina State by 10 points last month.
