Police fire shots at suspects fleeing from downtown drug deal

Officer dragged 'several feet' by suspects' car has minor injuries

December 18, 2013|By Colin Campbell, The Baltimore Sun

Police were approaching a drug deal in the parking lot of a downtown gas station Wednesday night when one of the suspects' cars drove off, dragging an officer "several feet" as police fired, Deputy Police Commissioner Jerry Rodriguez said.

One of the cars drove at another of the four uniformed officers outside the Exxon at the corner of West Mulberry and North Greene streets, causing him to also fire his gun in self-defense, Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez would not say how many suspects were involved, in custody or at large, pending further investigation. One of the cars had been found empty about a mile north of the scene, he said.

The officer who was dragged had minor injuries, he said, and none of the other officers were hurt.

Anyone with information may contact police.
