Girls cross country All-Metro first-team

First team

Carly Bunting

South River, senior

* Captured the Anne Arundel County individual title as South River won team crown

* Took the Class 4A East region title as Seahawks also won team title

* Finished sixth in the state meet

* Took fourth in the Doc Jones Invitational

Sarah Coffey

Hereford, sophomore

* After a solid freshman year last fall, Coffey continued to improve this season

* Coffey finished second in the Baltimore County championship

* Didn't run in regional meet but came back for a second place finish in the state Class 2A race

* Also took ninth in the Barnhart Invitational earlier in the season

Ellie Gonzalez

Catholic, senior

* Repeated as Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland champion this fall, winning by one minute and 12

* Has won the IAAM title three consecutive years

* Won the Spiked Shoe, edging out Isabel Griffith of Dulaney by five seconds

* Race schedule wasn't as big this season due to college visits

Kristen Kohles

John Carroll, senior

* Took second behind Gonzalez in the IAAM title meet

* Top finisher in A Conference in that race and undefeated in A Conference races all season

* Finished second in Maryland/D.C. Private School title meet

* Headed to Virginia Tech to play lacrosse

Allison Krein

River Hill, junior

* Ran well in a number of big races for River Hill this season

* Took third in tough field at Georgetown Prep Fall Classic

* Began good postseason with third place finish in Howard County title run

* Took second in Class 3A East and fourth in Class 3A state races

Katie Leisher

Manchester Valley, junior

* Ended strong season with victory in Class 1A state title race

* That came after a big win — of almost one minute, 46 seconds — in Class 1A West region

* Also took second in the Carroll County title race

* Finished fourth in MVAL championships

Shreya Nalubola

Centennial, junior

* Top runner on Centennial's Class 3A state championship team

* Won the individual title in state title race in 18:41.1

* Also won the Howard County and Class 3A East region titles

* Took first in the Georgetown Prep Fall Classic

Sarah Rinehart

Liberty, junior

* One of the area's most versatile runners for distance races

* Won the Carroll County title, beating out Leisher by almost 21 seconds

* Ran second in Class 2A West region race

* Ended season with fifth place finish in Class 2A state race

Karli Smiraglia

Reservoir, senior

* Became one of the area's most consistent runners this fall

* Took second at Doc Jones Invitational and then won the Southern High Invitational a week later

* Finished second in Howard County title race

* Got third in both the Class 3A region and Class 3A state meets
