Blast squanders big lead, loses to Wave, 12-10, on late goal

The defending Major Indoor Soccer League-champion Blast blew a big lead and allowed a last-minute goal in a 12-10 loss Saturday night in the Milwaukee Wave's home opener.

The Blast (1-2) took an early 4-0 lead on goals by Stephen DeRoux 16 seconds into the game and Max Ferdinand four minutes later. Tony Donatelli scored for the Blast to make it 6-2 in the second quarter, and Aduato Neto put the visitors ahead 8-2 six minutes into the third quarter before Ferdinand padded the advantage to 10-2.

But Milwaukee's Carlos Munoz scored a 3-pointer with two minutes left in the quarter, and Giuliana Oliviero scored off a penalty shot two minutes into the fourth to cut Milwaukee's deficit to 10-7. Then Judson McKinney scored a 3-point goal to tie the score.

Milwaukee won on Carlos Munoz's goal with 20 seconds remaining.
