Mega Millions jackpot rises to $344 million ahead of Tuesday's drawing

Continuing a trend in recent years of massive jackpots, the Mega Millions lottery has reached $344 million after no one won Friday night's drawings.

Four times this year, the Powerball jackpot has passed the $300 million mark. Mega Millions has not had a jackpot reach more than $300 million yet this year, though the largest jackpot in U.S. history was in a Mega Millions drawing last year. That $656 million prize was split among winners in Maryland, Kansas and Illinois in March 2012.

Two winning tickets in the multi-state lottery have been sold in Maryland this year. In October, a Severn convenience store sold a winning ticket worth $189 million. In February, a person who purchased a ticket in Mount Airy won a $26 million prize.

Friday's winning numbers were 11 29 44 63 64. The mega ball was 3. The next drawing will be Tuesday and $344 million jackpot will have a cash option of $184 million.
