Lockdown lifted at North Laurel elementary schools

Police searching for possible suspicious person

December 05, 2013|By Luke Lavoie, llavoie@tribune.com

Howard County police lifted a lockdown at Laurel Woods Elementary School at about 5:10 p.m. Thursday, after lifting one at nearby Forest Ridge Elementary School in North Laurel about 50 minutes earlier.

Police had placed both schools under lockdown because of a report of a suspicious person in the area, police said. The lockdown at Forest Ridge was lifted at approximately 4:20 p.m., according to police.

In an email to parents at 3:15 p.m., officials from Laurel Woods said the school was locked down because police were "pursuing someone with a weapon in our area."

Police said the report of an armed person is unconfirmed, but that a caller reported a person "may have a weapon."
