Police said at least six vehicles were involved in a pileup on northbound Interstate 83 at Cold Spring Lane that shut down the expressway and snarled evening traffic out of the city for hours Wednesday.

Motorists had only minor injuries, and none needed to be taken to the hospital, Baltimore Fire Department spokesman Ian Brennan said.

The crash happened around 6:45 p.m., and all lanes on the expressway were reopened by 9 p.m., police said.
