Wind energy deserves study [Letter]

December 03, 2013

I wish to correct a statement attributed to me in the article, "Incumbent hosts forum for nine District 12 candidates for state delegate" (Nov. 15), by Julie Baughman. The article states that I am against offshore wind energy. I am not against offshore wind energy and I appreciate the opportunity to clarify my position.

I care deeply about pursuing green energy, providing high-paying jobs for the residents of Maryland and protecting coastal wildlife. There is evidence that suggests large wind turbines can disrupt local wildlife and even alter wind patterns. However, the benefits of producing offshore wind energy may outweigh the negative impacts.

Therefore, I feel that it is important to continue to study wind and other sources of green energy as we work together to find a long term solution to our dependence on fossil fuels.
