'Pope of Filth' is an offensive term [Letter]

December 03, 2013

Perhaps in future stories about filmmaker John Waters, The Sun Magazine could refrain from linking the title for the leader of the world's Roman Catholics with the term "filth" ("A John Waters Christmas," Nov. 20).

Your description of Mr. Waters as the "Pope of Filth" was incredibly offensive. Perhaps the "King of Filth" or the "Filth Czar" would have been a better way to describe him. Leave the Pope out of it.

Mary Beth Tawa, Ellicott City
