Edgewood man charged with assaulting girlfriend

November 26, 2013|AEGIS STAFF REPORT

An Edgewood man was arrested last Friday after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.

Brent Moyd-Kane, 26, of the 1800 block of Edgewater Drive, is charged with first- and second-degree assault and resisting arrest in connection with the incident.

Harford County Sheriff's deputies were called to his home last Friday and found Moyd-Kane's girlfriend lying by the door, crying. She told police she had jumped off the balcony of her apartment because she didn't know who was coming inside.

Moyd-Kane and his girlfriend both said Moyd-Kane carried her back inside, and once there, the girlfriend told police, she began yelling at Moyd-Kane to get off her. She said he allegedly put his hand around her neck and began to choke her. He also allegedly covered her mouth with his hand and the girlfriend said she couldn't breathe and almost lost consciousness.

As deputies tried to arrest Moyd-Kane and charge him with assault, he began to get agitated; a deputy pulled out his TASER, but Moyd-Kane calmed down before it was used.

He was taken to the Harford County Detention Center, where he was being held Tuesday on $10,000 bail.

Moyd-Kane was laid off from the Village of Lakeview, where he was working as a groundskeeper. He has three small kids: 3, 2 and 5 months, according to a public defender at his bail review hearing Monday.

He went to Overlea High School and completed two years at Essex CC studying general studies, the public defender said.

He has three prior convictions and failed to appear once, he said.
