Marine electronics

 Monday, Nov. 25: Chris Gilbert will discuss marine electronics at the regular monthly meeting of the Perry Hall Chapter of Maryland Saltwater Sportfishing Association. Loch Raven hike

Saturday, Nov. 30: This 8-mile hike will be over by 11:30 a.m. Some rocky hills and one very steep climb. Only for fast, experienced hikers. Information: 410-299-8833.

Animal clues

Saturday, Nov. 30: Learn how wildlife prepares for winter and search for the clues animals leave behind in a program at the Willow Grove Nature Education Center at Cromwell Valley Park. Dress for the weather, including sturdy shoes and cold-weather gear. $2 members/$4 nonmembers. All ages. 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Owl prowl

Saturday, Nov. 30: After a brief introduction indoors at the Willow Grove Nature Education Center, hike some trails at Cromwell Valley Park to look and listen for these nighttime predators. $2 members/$4 non-members. Individuals/families ages 8 and older. 4 p.m. to 5:30.

NCRR hike

Sunday, Dec. 1: Second in a series of four hikes on the North Central Railroad/Heritage Rail Trail from Cockeysville to York, Pa. This is a 10-mile, four-hour one-way hike with a car plant in New Freedom, Pa. Terrain is flat, crushed gravel following an old train bed. Information: 443-536-6813. Carpool cost: $1.

Boating legislation

Monday, Dec. 2: The Maryland Boat Act Advisory Committee will meet to review proposed regulatory requests for 2014; accept recommendations from the nominating committee for the office of chairman, vice chairman, and officer at large; and be briefed on proposed legislation affecting boating in Maryland. Winter solstice hike

Saturday, Dec. 21: Celebrate the shortest day of the year with a free hike from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Gunpowder Falls State Park in Baldwin in Baltimore County.
