Terps' Likely named ECAC D-I special teamer of the week
Maryland freshman Will Likely was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division I Special Teams Player of the Week. Likely returned a punt 63 yards for a touchdown for the Terps' first score in their 27-24 overtime road win at Virginia Tech on Saturday. It was the first touchdown of Likely's career and Maryland's first punt return for a score since 2010. Likely averaged 26.5 yards on four punt returns and finished the game with 179 all-purpose yards.
More football: Salisbury senior safety Greg Stanton was named the ECAC Northwest Division III Defensive Player of the Week. He had two interceptions, returning one 93 yards for a touchdown, made five tackles and broke up a pass. ... Shepherd sophomore running back Allen Cross (Long Reach), sophomore halfback Jonathan Hammer (North Harford), senior defensive lineman Mike Franklin (Long Reach) and sophomore kicker Ryan Earls were named to the Mountain East Conference first team.
Men's lacrosse: The Rochester Institute of Technology and Stevenson will play next season at Syracuse's Carrier Dome in a rematch of the 2013 Division III national championship. The game will be held Feb. 22 as part of a tripleheader with Syracuse playing Maryland and Cornell facing Hobart. The Mustangs will open next season with a home game against York (Pa.) at 7 p.m. Feb. 15. Stevenson won last season's title game, 16-10, at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
Women's volleyball: Former UMBC players Kelly O'Brien and Lisa Cline have been named to the Big South Conference All-Decade Volleyball Team for the 1990s.
Cross country: UMBC sophomore Hassan Omar and junior Eric Shuler (Reservoir) have been named to the America East men's academic team, while senior Kirsten McGovern (Century) and sophomore Nicole Dawson (Hammond) were named to the women's team.

McDonogh's DeShields earns top national award
McDonogh sophomore defender Michael DeSshields has been named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America/TopDrawerSoccer.com High School Player of the Week. With just 10 seconds left in regulation in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference championship game, DeShields headed in a goal for a 1-0 win over St. Paul's to give the Eagles (20-0-1) their seventh league title. DeShields' first goal of the season avenged the team's only blemish this season, a draw with St. Paul's.
Legends Museum to display Ogden's Hall bust
The Hall of Fame bust of Jonathan Ogden will be on display from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Sports Legends Museum at Camden Yards. His bust will also be shown as part of "Jonathan Ogden: Baltimore's First Raven — A Legendary Tribute" from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Martin's West, where Ogden will be inducted into the Sports Legends Museum at Camden Yards Hall of Legends. The event will benefit the Babe Ruth Birthplace Foundation and the Jonathan Ogden Foundation. Ogden will join previous inductees Babe Ruth, Johnny Unitas, Art Modell, Jim McKay, Brooks Robinson, Gary Williams, Cal Ripken Jr. and Eddie Murray, among others, in the Hall of Legends. The evening will include a seated dinner; open, premium bar; silent and live auctions; and a program celebrating Ogden's career and service to the Baltimore community. This will be the only time the bust will be outside its home at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. Washington Spirit trades for Spalding grad Nairn
The Washington Spirit acquired midfielder Christine Nairn (Archbishop Spalding) from the Seattle Reign in exchange for the discovery rights to forward Kim Little. Nairn, 23, was selected by the Reign with the seventh overall pick in the 2013 National Women's Soccer League College Draft and started all 22 games for Seattle. The Penn State alumna had three goals and led the Reign with five assists during her rookie season.
