Restaurant plans spring 2014 opening

A Ruby Tuesday restaurant will open next spring on Liberty Road in Randallstown, where leaders have been working to attract more national chains, Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz announced.

County leaders are set to detail the restaurant's plans on Thursday. The 5,000-square-foot restaurant, to be built at Brenbrook Road, will seat 175.

The county has wanted to attract major retailers to the Liberty Road commercial corridor, located in a largely black community. Kamenetz said bringing a national restaurant to Randallstown has been a priority since he was elected.

"From a national retail and restaurant perspective, Liberty Road sometimes gets lost between Owings Mills and Route 40," he said. "The consumers are somewhat resentful that they have to travel outside their community to spend their money."

Ruby Tuesday representatives were impressed with the success of the area's new Wal-mart, which opened last year, he said. County officials believe both small and national businesses can thrive on Liberty Road, said Kamenetz, pointing to a new locally owned restaurant, Colin's Seafood and Grill, that held its grand opening this week.

"We think both will be wildly successful," he said.

The county has agreed to build parking and pedestrians paths so that people can access the restaurant from the Randallstown community center, senior center, and apartments in the area.
