A man was fatally shot steps away from railroad tracks in an industrial area of Harmans on Thursday night, Anne Arundel County police said.

The man, identified by police as Rene Filsfdelfo Leiva-Archila, 44, of Baltimore, was shot at about 7:30 p.m. in the 7400 block of Railroad Avenue, an industrial business site near the intersection of Shipley Avenue and Dorsey Road. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital, police said.

Police said they believe Leiva-Archila and another man met at the location, and during the encounter, the other man shot Leiva-Archila in the upper body in apparent attempted robbery.

A third man, who was accompanying Leiva-Archila, fled from the scene unharmed, police said. The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle.
