Baltimore shopping for Emmy's red-carpet trends

Shop these local designers and stores to get the looks worn by stars

September 25, 2013|By John-John Williams IV, The Baltimore Sun

American designers and runway fashion trends were the main event on the 2013 Emmy Awards red carpet Sunday.

Granted, many of the pieces were custom-made or won't be available until next season. But here are some great ways to find the looks, or similar ones, in local shops or through local designers.

Designer Christian Siriano

Christina Hendricks ("Mad Men") continued to support "Project Runway" winner and Annapolis native Christian Siriano. She wore a black lace gown from the designer. This year's form-fitting number showed off all her legendary curves.

Visit the Christian Siriano flagship store, 252 Elizabeth St., in the Nolita neighborhood of New York City; 212-775-8494.

Nail color from CoverGirl

While Giuliana Rancic's $1.03 million diamond ring by Forevermark captured a lot of attention, her Always Naked nail polish by CoverGirl was also newsworthy. Rancic gave a shout-out to the Hunt Valley-based cosmetics brand at the Emmys. She said she wore the neutral color so that it could go with either black or the blue dress she wore Sunday.

Find Always Naked nail polish, part of CoverGirl's Stay Brilliant nail gloss collection, online at Target.com and CVS.com or on the CoverGirl website. The retail price runs from $4.99 to $5.99.

Jewelry by Robert Lee Morris

Padma Lakshmi wore bold gold jewelry by designer Robert Lee Morris. Find his collection locally at Jones & Jones. Although the store doesn't have the exact cuff and earrings the "Top Chef" host wore, the pieces in stock are worth a look.

Dresses by Monique Lhuillier

Julia Louis-Dreyfus (of Baltimore-shot "Veep") looked stunning in a strapless column gown by Monique Lhuillier featuring metallic horizontal beading. She completed the look with a flashy sparkling clutch.

Find ML Monique Lhuillier at Bloomingdale's and Jones & Jones, 84 Village Square in Cross Keys. Call 410-532-9645.

Flutter-sleeve gowns

From Hendricks' black lace sleeves to those Alfre Woodard, Laura Dern and Mindy Kaling wore, sleeves were on full display. We found this crinkle chiffon flutter-sleeve dress in amethyst by WHITE by Vera Wang, exclusively at David's Bridal. The dress also comes in cassis, charcoal, ebony, midnight, sterling, valentina and champagne. And at $188, it's a good deal.
