Enough, said he

September 12, 2013|By John McIntyre | The Baltimore Sun

The idiotic journalistic prejudice against inverting subject and verb in attribution comes to full flower in this sentence from a Reuters dispatch:

Past studies have pegged the annual cost of treating those infections at $20 billion to $40 billion, so the new numbers show progress is being made, Dr. Eyal Zimlichman of the Center for Patient Safety Research and Practice at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, one of the new study’s authors, said.

That is, for the record, twenty-two words separating the name and said. And said is a word that should pass unremarked-on, not arrive as a pathetic anticlimax. Feh.
