Former Terp Harper hired as assistant

Former Maryland standout Laura Harper has joined the Loyola Maryland women's basketball coaching staff as an assistant. Harper replaces former Terp Keith Booth. Harper, the NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player during the Terps' national title run in 2006, graduated from the school in 2008 and was picked 10th overall in the WNBA draft by the Sacramento Monarchs. The power forward averaged five points and 3.7 rebounds in her first two seasons as a pro. Most recently, Harper played overseas in Russia for the Dynamo Moscow. During the 2011-2012 season, she also played for Antakya Turkey, averaging 13.3 points and 9.9 rebounds.

Ex-UM player Bohlander joins Manhattanville staff

Manhattanville announced on Wednesday the hiring of former Maryland defenseman Ryder Bohlander as an assistant coach for the 2014 season. "As a program we are excited to welcome someone of Ryder's skill level and knowledge base to Manhattanville College," Warnock said. "Ryder is a local product who has played at the highest levels of the game, and played under some of the best coaches in the nation. He is ready to get started and will make an immediate impact on our men." A native of Katonah, N.Y., Bohlander played for the Terps from 2008 to 2011. He was a four-year letter-winner and two-year starter on defense for the Terps, amassing 58 ground balls and causing 30 turnovers in his final two seasons. He helped the squad to four straight NCAA tournament appearances during his tenure, including a berth in the NCAA championship game as a senior. He received the "Iron Terp" award as the strongest pound-for-pound athlete on the team as a junior. After his senior season, he earned the school's Dick Edell "Big Man" award, which goes to the player who best embodies the positive and selfless qualities of the former coach. Bohlander was on the roster of the Charlotte Hounds of Major League Lacrosse last season after originally signing with the New York Lizards.

More Division I men: Rutgers announced that midfielder Charlie Nicklaus, a grandson of World Golf Hall of Famer Jack Nicklaus, will join the team for the 2014 season. Responsible for faceoff duties, Nicklaus was a four-year starter at Benjamin School in North Palm Beach, Fla., and was a member of 2010 and 2011 state champion teams. He posted 69 goals and 80 assists in his career. ... Virginia Military Institute announced that defenseman Tom Brown (Boys' Latin) will join the team for next season. Brown was ranked No. 33 among Inside Lacrosse Magazine's Top 40 defensemen in the publication's recruiting rankings. Brown was a two-year letter-winner and named second-team All-Metro by The Baltimore Sun. He also was a three-year letter-winner for the Lakers football team, playing both left tackle and defensive end, and earning first-team All-Conference honors. ... Attackman Max Greene (Gilman) will join Harvard for the 2014 season, the school announced. A three-year letter-winner in lacrosse and a letter-winner in ice hockey, He was named an Under Armour All-American in 2013.

Division I women: Stony Brook announced that Megan Pettine (Westminster) will join the team for the 2014 season.

Division II: Colorado State-Pueblo will add men's and women's lacrosse for the spring 2015 season.

Division III: St. Mary's has added former Seahawk Taylor Cook and Joey Severns to its men's coaching staff. ... Former North County boys coach Brian Stewart has been named men's head coach at Division III Mount Union. Stewart spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Limestone, in Gaffney, S.C. Before returning to Limestone, Stewart spent five years serving in the Navy. He was commissioned as an ensign in 2006 and was stationed at the Naval Academy Prep School in Newport, R.I., as part of the athletic department. ... Washington & Jefferson has announced the hiring of Kevin Kustron (Salisbury) as assistant coach. With the Sea Gulls, Kustron was a member of three NCAA Division III national championship teams (2005, 2007, 2008) and captained the 2008 squad. ... Thomas More in Crestview Hills, Ky., said it will add women's lacrosse for the 2015 season. Maine Maritime Academy will add women's lacrosse for that season, the school said.
