New lane on Route 197 is not the answer [Letter]

September 05, 2013

Extend the right lane to reduce accidents on 197 at Muirkirk Road? ("SHA adding turn lane on Laurel Bowie Road," Aug. 22.) Really? Most accidents there are on the south lanes. The new lane will cause more accidents on the northbound side. Right lane squeezers will be going faster past Muirkirk. Further the new right hand lane still will end at a right turn onto197 at a light , but also at the beginning of a school zone, at a bus stop and further at a children cross walk. A good idea? I think not! Let's not be crazy and spend our money elsewhere.
