Stefon Diggs met Orioles' Adam Jones; movement on Maryland's offensive line

TERPS NOTES

Sean Davis moves in front of A.J. Hendy at safety

I knew Stefon Diggs threw out the first pitch – it was high and wide – at the Orioles game Sunday at Camden Yards.  In his defense, his strategy was to aim high.  You never want
to bounce one in front of the plate.

“I think he tried to throw a cutter and it cut a little too much,” head coach Randy Edsall said.

What I didn’t know is that he met Orioles outfielder Adam Jones.

“He said that’s his favorite Oriole player of the current team. So he was jacked up about it,” said Edsall, who brought the whole team to the game.

Other Terps notes:

* It appears offensive lineman Nick Klemm  sustained an injury. “He did, but we’ll cover
that on Monday [when the injury report is released]," Edsall said. He sustained really a
non-contact injury … just had the weight on his foot.”

Michael Dunn, a redshirt freshman from Bethesda, was listed as Klemm’s backup at tackle
entering training camp. But Dunn has moved into the guard position formerly
held by Andrew Zeller, a starter last season. “I just like the way that Michael Dunn has been playing,” Edsall said. “Andrew’s got some things he knows he needs to work on. We put Michael in there and watched him and liked what we saw, and then had him get out in the
scrimmage [Saturday] and I thought he did well.”

* Sean Davis has won the battle for the contested safety position, at least for now. He and A.J. Hendy had been competing throughout camp. “Right now, we have Sean with the No. 1s, but that one was as close as you can probably get,” Edsall said. “That’s what we told the kids. It was close. Sean knows that he’s got to perform each day."

* Starting quarterback C.J. Brown said his arm is a little tired, but that it’s standard training-camp stuff. “My arm is kind of bothering me a little bit,” said Brown, who participated in Tuesday’s practice. “I had a practice off [earlier] and they decided not to scrimmage me on Saturday. It’s fine. It’s just tired.”

* Still no word on who will be the backup quarterback, although Edsall indicated that Caleb Rowe and Ricardo Young may have the upper hand over Perry Hills.
