Mystics dominated early, lose by 18 to Sparks
Bolstered by first and third quarters in which they outscored Washington by 10 and 13 points, respectively, the Los Angeles Sparks earned a 75-57 victory in front of an announced 7,092 at Verizon Center on Sunday afternoon. Crystal Langhorne (Maryland) was the only Washington player to score in double digits, netting 23 points and adding seven rebounds. Emma Meesseman was the Mystics' second-highest scorer, with nine points. Los Angeles, however, had five players score double digits, with Nneka Ogwumike leading the team with 22. Marissa Coleman (Maryland) added 11 points for the Sparks (13-7).
Berlin Little Leaguers win second straight in Bristol, Conn.
The Berlin All-Stars defeated Newark, Del., 6-2 in Bristol, Conn., on Saturday in their second game of the Little League World Series' East Region tournament. Pitcher Matt Kinsey allowed two runs on seven hits in 52/3 innings. He struck out three. Tristan McDonough drove in three runs on a first-inning single and a fifth-inning two-run homer. McDonough also accounted for all three outs defensively in the top of the second inning with two Newark runners on base. McDonough tagged the lead runner on a fielder's choice and finished the inning by grabbing a line drive up the middle and stepping on second for an unassisted double play. Zack Pletcher finished the game by striking out the final Newark batter on three pitches. Berlin is 2-0 thus far.
Auto racing: Baltimore's Justin Boston (Boys' Latin) finished third in Friday's ARCA ModSpace 125 at Pocono Raceway. It is Boston's highest finish in his rookie campaign in the ARCA series, in which he sits at fourth in the points standings. The result marked Boston's ninth top-10 finish and his fourth top-five finish of the season. After the race, he moved to 50 points behind third-place Tom Hessert — who finished 16th — in the points standings. Boston next races at the Berlin ARCA 200 on Saturday.
