Orioles option RHP Steve Johnson to Triple-A Norfolk

A corresponding move will be announced before Sunday's game against the Mariners

The Orioles optioned right-hander Steve Johnson to Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday night following the team’s 8-4 loss to the Seattle Mariners. A corresponding roster move will be announced before Sunday’s series finale.

Johnson pitched one inning Saturday and allowed two walks while striking out two batters. It was his first appearance for the Orioles since June 5 on the road against the Houston Astros. He went on the 15-day disabled list following that game with a strained left oblique.

After second baseman Brian Roberts was placed on paternity leave Friday, the Orioles activated Johnson -- who was with Double-A Bowie preparing to make a rehab start Saturday -- from the disabled list and placed him in the bullpen for the 11-8 win over Seattle.

On the year, Johnson is now 1-1 with a 7.82 ERA in six games (one start).
