Red Cross blood drive planned during Cal Ripken World Series

The American Red Cross and the Cal Ripken Youth Baseball Division are teaming up to host the inaugural Red Cross Day Blood Drive during the Cal Ripken World Series in Aberdeen on Aug.17, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Each donor will receive a coupon for a Free Dunkin' Donuts iced coffee and doughnut, a voucher for one ticket to an upcoming Orioles home game, one reserved seat at the Cal Ripken World Series and will have the opportunity to be included in a group picture on the field at Cal Sr's Yard.

During the Cal Ripken World Series some of the best 12-year-old baseball players in the world, representing the Cal Ripken Major/70 division of the Babe Ruth League compete for top honors. It's the culmination of a year-long journey known as the Road to Aberdeen. Each year, 10 teams from across the United States join six top teams from around the world in a tournament to crown a single world champion.

To schedule an appointment to donate blood during the Ripken World Series, call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit Anyone 17 or older (16 with parental permission), who meets weight and height requirements and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood.

The American Red Cross has been a primary supplier of lifesaving blood products in the United States for more than 50 years. The Red Cross Blood Services - Northeast Division must distribute approximately 3,000 units of blood each day just to meet the basic needs of area patients.
