Vandy hires Severna Park grad Gardner as assistant
Two-time All-American Julie Gardner (Severna Park) will join the Vanderbilt women's lacrosse program as an assistant coach, the team announced Tuesday. A 2012 graduate of Virginia, Gardner has spent the past year as an assistant coach at William & Mary, where her primary responsibilities included recruiting, social media, alumni relations, practice and game-day coaching. She will assume a similar role with the Commodores. Gardner served as a coach for the SPLAX club team in Severna Park for five years.
More college women: Lehigh announced that defender-midfielder Emily May (Hereford) will join the program next season. She was a four-year lacrosse starter for the Bulls, who were a two-time Baltimore County champion, and also took part in soccer, cross country, and track and field. May was named to the 2012 ESPN Top 100 watch list and in 2013 was a Varsity Sports Network Lacrosse Player to Watch. She was also a two-time member of the US Lacrosse All-Academic team.
Varsity boys: Archbishop Curley has named Chris Ogle as coach, replacing John Tucker (Johns Hopkins). Ogle, a UMBC graduate who played four years for the Retrievers, has been with the program for the past 11 years as an assistant coach. Tucker, who led the Friars to a 12-2 mark and a trip to the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference semifinals this past season, was named coach of Major League Lacrosse's Boston Cannons last month.

West among 6 chosen as Preseason All-Americans
Junior running back Terrance West (Northwestern) leads a contingent of six Towson players named to the Football Championship Subdivision Preseason All-America team, as announced by the Phil Steele FCS Preview Magazine. West, who earned first-team honors for the second year in a row, was joined on the All-America team by senior tackle Eric Pike, senior cornerback Jordan Love, offensive tackle Randall Harris, offensive center Doug Shaw (Loyola High) and junior cornerback Tye Smith. Pike and Love were named to the second team, while Harris, Shaw and Smith earned third-team honors.
Mystics' Langhorne, Latta picked as All-Star reserves
Washington Mystics players Ivory Latta and Crystal Langhorne (Maryland) were selected as reserves for the WNBA All-Star Game on Saturday at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The game will be televised on ABC at 3:30 p.m. Latta, earning her first All-Star nod, joined the Mystics in February and leads the team in scoring (14.4 points per game) and assists (3.9 per game). Making her second All-Star appearance, Langhorne leads the team in rebounding (6.7 rpg) for the fourth consecutive year and averages 12.8 points.
Junior golf: Baltimore Municipal Golf Corp. will host the 21st event of the PGA Middle Atlantic Section Junior Tour on Friday at Clifton Park Golf Course. The tour, which started June 17 in Pikesville, includes 28 tournaments and culminates Aug. 5 in Reston, Va. Participants in the PGA Middle Atlantic Section Junior Tour are between the ages of 10 and 17, and reside in or are a member of a golf club within the boundaries of the Middle Atlantic Section, including Maryland, Virginia, Washington and portions of West Virginia and Pennsylvania. World TeamTennis: The Washington Kastles (11-2) are streaking into the playoffs, having defeated the host New York Sportimes (4-9) on Tuesday, 23-15, for their ninth consecutive victory overall. Washington has won 25 straight matches against Eastern Conference opponents and 11 against the Sportimes dating to July 15, 2010. Washington, which has home-court advantage throughout the playoffs, earned a 23-13 win over the visiting Philadelphia Freedoms (4-8) on Monday.
Women's college soccer: Navy announced that senior goalkeeper Elizabeth Hoerner will serve as captain.
Men's college track and field: Hood's Michael Beidleman was named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division III All-Academic team.
