Last August, Casey Powell announced that he had retired from Major League Lacrosse.
Nearly a year later, he's back -- and as dominant as ever.
The attackman earned Warrior Offensive Player of the Week honors after an outstanding season debut for the Chesapeake Bayhawks in Saturday's overtime win over the Boston Cannons, Major League Lacrosse announced Monday.
In his first MLL game since June 2012, Powell had four points -- including the tying goal on a diving effort with five seconds left -- to lead the Bayhawks to a 13-12 win, their first overtime victory in four tries this season.
Powell rifled in two other goals and threw a handful of behind-the-back passes, connecting with Ben Rubeor (Loyola High) for a score early in the fourth quarter.
Powell's 403 career points are second in the MLL record book to Boston's Ryan Boyle (Gilman), who passed Powell in May and now has 419 points.
Chesapeake (7-4) next travels to Denver to face the 11-0 Outlaws on Saturday at 2 p.m. ESPN2 will broadcast the game live.
