Block party

First Baptist Church of Savage hosts a neighborhood block party at 6 p.m. Friday, July 26, at Carroll Baldwin Hall, 9035 Baltimore St. The event features free food, live music by Jakob's Night Band, door prizes, free food, games, face-painting and more. Laurel Mill Playhouse's Summer Youth production tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many "thinks." Crab feast

The Elkridge Senior Center hosts a crab feast from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at 6540 Washington Blvd. The menu includes Maryland crab soup, barbecue chicken, cole slaw, corn bread, watermelon and hardshell crabs. Concert series

The 35th annual Montpelier Summer Concert Series continues at 7 p.m. Friday, July 26, with the Winstons performing Motown and Soul music at Montpelier Mansion, 9650 Muirkirk Road in Laurel. Free. Information: 301-776-2805.

History program

The second annual "Blast-in-the-Past: A Hands-On History Playground," will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays, through Aug. 10 at Montpelier Mansion, 9650 Muirkirk Road in Laurel. Children can pretend they're farmers tending their crops, be a town crier, shop in the outdoor market, try their hand at old-fashioned trade and more.
