Anne Arundel County Police say a man was arrested Wednesday morning in the southern part of the county after allegedly shooting at a woman as she tried to flee in a vehicle.

Police said the incident occurred in the 300 block of Friendship Road in Friendship. A woman called 911 at about 1:45 p.m. and told police that her boyfriend had struck her with an object in the home and later shot at her.

She told police she had run from the residence and was attempting to get into a vehicle when multiple shots were fired. All of the rounds hit the vehicle and the female was able to drive to a nearby residence to call police.

Police said they went to the residence, and the suspect was placed under arrest without incident after he came out of wooded area behind the house.

Police said John Brice Clagett, 44, of Friendship, was charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first-degree assault and other charges. Police said he was armed with a shotgun and pistol when he was arrested, and after a consent to search the residence was given, other weapons were found and seized. Police said they are investigating their legality.
