Harford community "Stars" get ready to dance for arts fundraiser

Harford County community leaders have been named to participate in the sixth annual "Dancing for the Arts" fundraiser for the Center for the Arts. The event is planned for Sept. from 6:30 to 11 p.m. at the Bulle Rock Residents' Club in Havre de Grace.

Participants will showcase their ballroom dancing talents and compete for top honors in a friendly competition. The "Stars" will take private dance lessons with professional dance instructors from Dancing with Friends. The evening will include an open bar, sumptuous food, the dancing competition, live auction and dancing after the competition.

The Harford "Stars" include: Robert Buden, of Havre de Grace; Patrick Chambers, president of WEBIXI; Jim Costigan, retired colonel and site manager for General Dynamics C4 Systems; Carolyn Evans, a partner in Sengstacke & Evans, LLC; Lisa Feulner M.D., an ophthalmologist with Advanced Eye Care; Linda Goetz, director nurse anesthetists for the University of Maryland Medical Center/R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center; Suzanne Green, director of the Y of Central Maryland, Walter & Betty Ward Family Center; Dave Harper, Realtor with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage; Mary Anne Medeiros, owner of Salon Marielle and Maj. N. Lee Price, U.S. Army.

The Harford "Stars" will compete for the awards for the Judges Choice Award dancing award, and for first, second, and third place fundraising awards. The public can help choose the Top Fundraising Award by going to http://www.DancingForTheArts.org to vote for their favorite dancer by making a donation to the Center for the Arts (1 vote = $1).

Gala attendees will have the opportunity to continue voting at the event Sept. 21. The dancer receiving the most votes at the end of the evening will receive the Top Fundraising Award.

Deborah Pro-Marshall, Judge Angela Eaves, Tony Meoli, and Mark Welsh are returning to choose the Judges Choice Award.

The Honorary Chair is Tamera Rush, Vice President Defense STG, Inc. and winner of the Judges Choice Award at the 2012 gala. The master of ceremonies is Jamie Costello, news anchor for ABC2 News, which carries the popular show, Dancing for the Stars. Tickets are on sale now. They are $185 per person. There are a variety of advertising and sponsorship opportunities to choose from to be spotlighted at the event.

The money raised will help sustain the Center for the Arts as they move forward to build a regional Center for the Arts in Harford County. The Center for the Arts is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to nurturing art artists, and community by providing a broad range of creative and collaborative experiences through quality arts education, presentation & exhibit in the disciplines of music, dance, theatre, & the visual, traditional and literary arts. The Center for the Arts will also include special event and business meeting space as well as a heritage museum for Harford County.
