Baltimore police must do more with less

June 24, 2013

Private sector employers are doing more with fewer employees and making record profits, but politicians are like unions — their interest is not about doing their jobs so much as serving their membership ("A smaller, smarter force," June 21).

More policemen are not going to make Baltimore any safer. Why not get the police force to do more? They have already overspent their overtime budget with no results. And how about thinking about the taxpayers who finance these 20-year pension and health care plans for policemen?

Most city taxpayers do not have jobs that allow them to retire in 20 years with benefits.
