The teachings of the Church are the only 'mainstream' that counts

June 23, 2013

The Maryland "leaders" that reader John C. Murphy says say are Catholic are Catholics in name only ("Lori's views outside the Catholic mainstream," June 19). They don't follow the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Sen. Barbara Mikulski is pro-choice, and Gov. Martin O'Malley pushed the same-sex marriage issue.

Archbishop Lori is just following the teachings of the Catholic Church, which has been around for 2,000 years.

I can either follow the "mainstream" and go with the crowd — or I can follow the teachings of the Catholic Church. I'll take the Catholic Church.
