Two people were hospitalized Monday afternoon after a man drove a car into an Annapolis restaurant, officials said.

The 78-year-old man drove into an outdoor eating area at Zoe's Kitchen at 1901 Towne Centre Boulevard in the Annapolis Towne Centre just before 1:30 p.m., said Division Chief Keith Swindle, a spokesman for the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

A 20-year-old woman who was sitting at a table outside was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, Swindle said.

The driver was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center with minor injuries, Swindle said.

Three other people – a 54-year-old man, a 45-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman – were treated by paramedics at the scene, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department is investigating the crash.
