Right fielder has never been an All-Star

Orioles right fielder Nick Markakis moved into third-place among American League outfielders in the All-Star Game fan voting as of Saturday’s update, putting the team in position to have four starters in the July 16 exhibition.

The top three outfielders in the voting will start the game at Citi Field in New York. Markakis has never made an All-Star team.

Center fielder Adam Jones, first baseman Chris Davis and shortstop J.J. Hardy each still lead the voting at their respective positions.

Third baseman Manny Machado is second behind the Detroit Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera, and catcher Matt Wieters is second to the Minnesota Twins’ Joe Mauer. Left fielder Nate McLouth ranks seventh among outfielders.

Davis is the second-leading vote-getter in the league overall with 2,999,094, behind Cabrera’s 3,277,890 votes.

The most players the Orioles have ever had voted in by fans is three, which happened twice — in 1971 with Boog Powell, Brooks Robinson and Frank Robinson, and in 1997 with Roberto Alomar, Brady Anderson and Cal Ripken Jr.

Voting closes July 4, and the rosters will be announced July 7.
