Kentucky Derby winner Orb is the even-money favorite for the Preakness, so the biggest topics leading up to the weekend have, obviously, been about his chances and how to beat him on Saturday.

“The jockey was just here," Mylute jockey Rosie Napravnik, the fiery 25-year-old, shot back. "Ask him.”

Though Napravnik eventually talked quite a bit about her thoughts on Orb and her possible strategies coming out of the gate -- Orb drew post-position No. 1, while Mylute is at No. 5 -- she has her own worries about Mylute.

Namely, not getting too far behind Orb.

Mylute broke slowly out of the gate at the Kentucky Derby and sat with Orb at the beginning of the race until Orb began pulling away. Napravnik, who began her racing career in Maryland, said she got too far behind Orb, but can change that on Saturday.

“Mylute, he’s definitely coming along,” Napravnik said. “He’s a little bit of a slow learner, but I think he’s really waking up and improving as a race horse, really getting that competitive drive.”

But it’s not just Orb vs. Mylute -- there are still seven other horses racing Saturday. Though the attention (and the money) will continue to be on those two colts, the jockeys and trainers still have more to worry about than the two favorites.

“I think there’s going to be a couple of other tough horses,” said Napravnik, who will become the third woman to run in the Preakness. “One horse that I thought looked great going into the [Kentucky] Derby was Itsmyluckyday. It was said that he really just didn’t like the slop and that’s what the excuse was from him. I would look to see how he runs from here.

“I think Will Take Charge had kind of a troubled trip in the Derby. I think those are going to be a couple tough horses. I’ll keep my eye on Orb, he’s on the inside of me, which I like, but he’s not the only one we have to beat.”
