Coppin's Victorian captures 400 hurdles at IC4A meet
Coppin State senior Jibri Victorian won the 400-meter hurdles on the final day of the IC4A Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Princeton. Victorian became the first Coppin State athlete to capture an IC4A outdoor title since Steve Delice won the 400 hurdles and the Eagles 4x400-meter relay team finished first at the 2008 championships. Victorian won the championship by finishing first in a time of 51.30 seconds.
Women's IC4A: UMBC sophomore Mercedes Jackson (Huntingtown) ran a career-best and school-record time to claim the 100 dash in 11.51.
Salisbury moves on to NCAA softball regional final today
With its first shutout of the Salem, Va., NCAA Regional, the top-seeded Salisbury softball team defeated sixth-seeded Piedmont, 3-0, to advance to today's championship at 10 a.m. The Sea Gulls (38-2) started off the game strong with a two-run inning. Senior Sarah Alpaugh reached first with a single up the middle before advancing to second on classmate Michelle Gravdahl's single through the left side. With two runners on in the first inning, senior Hannah Mills doubled to right field to score Alpaugh and Gravdahl for a 2-0 lead for the Sea Gulls (38-2). Sophomore pitcher Rachel Johnson controlled the Lions lineup through four innings before Piedmont (33-9) put two runners on the bags in the fifth inning but the sophomore fired back, striking out Whitney Wolfe for the final out of the inning. Gravdahl went 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI for Salisbury.
