Greenwald finishes first at NOOD Regatta

Overcoming a field of 49 boats in the J/70 class, Bennet Greenwald of San Diego took first place aboard the Perseverance in the highly competitive division and was named overall winner at the Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Regatta in Annapolis on Sunday. The honor distinguishes Greenwald and his crew — Jeff Madrigali, Steven Pickel and Morgane Renoir — as the top performers throughout the three-day race, which featured 15 boat classes and more than 1,000 sailors. "For the first couple races we were learning to sail together as a new team," Greenwald said. "Once we did that we were able to look outside the boat and up the race course for shifts, lanes and where to make gains." As the overall winner in Annapolis, Greenwald received an invitation to participate in the Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Championship Regatta in the British Virgin Islands at the end of the season to compete aboard Sunsail 44i's against the other overall winners in the 2013 series. A contingent of Annapolis-based sailors also had strong showings during the NOOD. Claiming first place in their divisions were Tim Williams (LinGin, Alberg 30), Jeff Borland (Make Mine a Double, Etchells), James Sagerholm/Jerry Christofe (Aunt Jean, J/35), Cedric Lewis/Frederick Salvenson (Mirage, J/105) and Bill Sweetser (Rush, J/109).
