Warm, muggy weather is forecast for Friday until a front approaches bringing rain, storms and colder temperatures to the Baltimore area, according to the National Weather Service.

Dew points reached the lower 60s Friday morning, making for air thick with humidity. Overnight lows reached the upper 50s, with fog and light rain early.

Ahead of the front by Friday evening, thunderstorms with gusty winds are expected. Winds of 20-25 mph are forecast by the afternoon, with showers and storms starting to move in. The weather service expects a 100 percent chance of rain, with more than an inch of rainfall possible.

A gale warning is in effect on the Chesapeake Bay from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., according to the weather service. A small craft advisory was in effect up until 2 p.m.

Strengthening southerly winds could also cause minor coastal flooding along the bay shores, forecasters said.

Beyond the front, high pressure with cooler temperatures are expected. Mostly sunny skies with highs around 60 degrees are forecast for Saturday and Sunday.

Next week is also expected to start with highs around 60 degrees, with a chance of rain Monday night into Tuesday morning.
