Shop Talk

Welcome to the newest Salon by Debbie, the biggest and most beautiful yet.

Sun streams through a wall of windows into the big, airy room. An array of chaise longues beckon, almost whispering an invitation to slow down and relax. And why not? There are drinks on hand, plump pillows and a stack of new magazines to page through.

And someone will be arriving soon to take you to your spa treatment.

It feels like a true getaway, a mini-vacation. And yet, you are in Abingdon, right next to Wegmans.

Debbie Nazelrod first gave us Spa on the Avenue, launched in White Marsh about 10 years ago. A few years later, she added Spa in the Valley in the Hunt Valley Towne Centre.

Spa on the Boulevard, which opened in January, has been about three years in the making, says Amanda Jeffries, general manager of the location — and Nazelrod’s daughter. With a staggering 11,000-plus square feet of space, the salon continues to offer its signature services (hairstyling and color, manicures and pedicures, skin care, body treatments, etc.) but has expanded with new lists of luxuries, including couples’ treatment rooms, a makeup room that can accommodate bridal parties, a barbershop and a men’s locker room.

Did we mention that this is a big place? The nail area features sunny manicure stations and one of the coolest pedicure areas we’ve seen. There are a few private, curtained booths, or mosey up to the pedicure bar, a banquette with side-by-side spaces perfect for a pedicure party.

Jeffries says plans are in the works to add more, including lunches for clients and a yoga studio.

Sounds just about right for that mini-vacation.
