April 15, 2013

Fire crews from Howard, Anne Arundel and Prince George’s counties battled a house and brush fire on Sunday in Laurel.

According to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services, on Sunday at about 9:30 p.m., firefighters from the Savage station were alerted to a brush fire in the 9000 block of Whiskey Bottom Road in Laurel.

Units arrived to find an abandon house engulfed in fire, as well as several brush fires. Additional units from the three counties were called for assistance. Officials said additional brush fires started by embers from the burning home.

The fires were under control within one hour and there were no firefighter or civilian injuries, officials said.

Howard County fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the fires, officials said, and also whether they started in the abandon house or in the brush.
