Varsity roundup: Dons halt slide in baseball

After losing three of its past five games, with all three losses to Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference opponents, Loyola's baseball team needed to turn things around.

It did. Winner Mason Kapelanski pitched a three-hit shutout and the Dons (12-7, 4-3) blanked McDonogh, 10-0, on Saturday.

The Eagles (1-9) suffered their sixth straight loss. Conor Reynolds (2-for-2) had a double, a homer and four RBIs, and James O'Malley (3-for-4) had a double for Loyola.

The three earlier losses were to Archbishop Spalding, 9-6, on Tuesday; to No. 5 Gilman, 14-5, on Wednesday; and to No. 1 Calvert Hall, 7-0, on Thursday.

No. 2 South River 3, Northeast 1: Scott Mitchell (3-for-4) had two doubles, a single and three RBIs to power the visiting Seahawks (7-2) past the Eagles (5-2).

Friday's boys lacrosse

No. 13 Chesapeake-AA 18, Meade 1: Kyle Dougan made five saves and Tyler Dewling had a hat trick to lead the host Cougars (6-2) past the Mustangs (0-7).

Chesapeake-AA led 13-0 at the break.

Friday's girls lacrosse

No. 11 South River 18, Old Mill 3: Mary Milligan scored a game-high four goals to power the host Seahawks (6-1) past the Patriots (1-4).

South River led 14-0 at halftime.
