Tawes Garden & Shop

Volunteers are needed to help with a variety of gardening tasks, including planting, watering, weeding and mulching. Also needed are tour guides, particularly in April and May, to assist the teacher-naturalist with large groups. Year-round programs need chaperones for field trips as well as assistants for nature programs. Shopkeepers are needed for two-hour shifts on a weekly or bimonthly basis in the gift shop at the Maryland Department of Natural Resources in Annapolis. Arundel Public Library

The library seeks a volunteer, 16 or older, to assist with scanning a large archive of historical library photographs and clippings, uploading the images to Flickr and entering any data written on the photos. Accuracy and careful handling of delicate items are important, as is the ability to work independently. All work will take place at library headquarters, 5 Harry S. Truman Parkway in Annapolis. Hours are flexible between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Training will be provided. For more information, email

Historic London Town

Those interested in history and/or horticulture are needed as docents, interpreters and gardeners. Volunteers give tours or demonstrate Colonial crafts and daily life. They may also work in historic or ornamental gardens. Information: 410-222-1919, ext. 204 or go to

Annapolis Wine Expo

The Annapolis Wine Expo will be held from noon to 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, and volunteers are needed for each session. Visitor Center

Volunteers are needed at the West Street Visitor Center and City Dock Booth to provide visitors with information. Help is also needed for computer data entry. Completion of a training program and a three-month provisional period is required of new volunteers; participation in ongoing training and continuing education is required. Salvation Army

Volunteers are needed to drop off donations Mondays through Fridays for Salvation Army food pantries in Annapolis and Glen Burnie. Suggested items include nonperishable canned goods and boxed food; toiletries are welcome. Groups that hold food drives can make arrangements to have the food picked up. Information: 410-263-4091.

Wildlife sanctuary

The Davidsonville Wildlife Sanctuary treats and cares for injured and orphaned animals and, if possible, releases them back into the wild. Volunteers who can commit to working at least one morning a week are needed to feed, water and clean animals. Information: 410-798-0193 or
