A stretch of temperatures well above normal will start Monday, with highs in the mid-70s, according to the National Weather Service.

Overnight lows were expected in the mid-50s, with temperatures warming nearly 20 degrees above that during the day. The season's first dew points in the 50s arrived across the region Monday morning, according to the weather service, meaning humidity is starting to creep upward.

Showers and/or thunder in the afternoon and evening were expected to pass outside of Central Maryland as a cold front moves by through Pennsylvania.

Tuesday and Wednesday could be even warmer, surpassing 80 degrees. Mostly cloudy skies are forecast Tuesday with highs in the lower 80s.

Wednesday could read the mid-80s, with partly to mostly cloudy skies.

Thursday could bring more temperatures around 80 degrees and another chance at thunderstorms. Rain is likely Friday, with highs back down in the 60s.
