Fly-fishing lessons

Boater safety

April through August: The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels is offering two-evening boater safety courses 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. April 17-18, May 15-16, June 12-13, July 17-18 and Aug. 15-16. Turkey shoot

Trophy rockfish tips

Tuesday, April 9: Captain Greg Buckner of Miss Susie Charters will speak at the 7:30 p.m. meeting of the Northwest Chapter of the Maryland Saltwater Sportfishing Association. He will discuss maximizing opportunities during spring trophy rockfish season. The meeting will be at the Patapsco Council No. 1960 Knights of Columbus Hall, 1010 Frederick Road, Catonsville. Decoy buy-sell-swap meet

Friday, Saturday, April 12-13: The Decoy Collectors' Club will hold its 16th-annual buy-sell-swap meet at the St. Michaels Motor Inn (Best Western). This is an open-door, room-to-room event at which collectors sell or barter primarily regional antique decoys. Starts at 8 a.m. Public welcome. No admission. Saturday, April 13, through Nov. 3: "Crisfield Carvings—Bird Hunting on Broad Waters" will be on display daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Waterfowling Building at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum at Navy Point in St. Michaels. Yellowstone River

April 17: Maryland Trout Unlimited will sponsor a talk by Dusty Wissmath of the Dusty Wissmath Fly Fishing School and Guide Service in Mercersburg, Pa., about the Yellowstone River complex and fishing opportunities closer to home. Charity 3-D shoot

April 20: Vingt Neuf Bowmen will hold a 20 target 3-D shoot from 9a.m. to 1 p.m. at Maryland State Game & Fish at 8735 Honeygo Blvd. Perry Hall. Cost: $10 for adults and $3 for students under 18. Refreshments available. Rain date; April 21. All proceeds will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Schindler Triathlon

April 20: The 7th Annual Emily Schindler Memorial Triathlon, which has an 800-yard swim, 91/2-mile bike ride and 3-mile run, will be held at the Community Center in Severna Park. The cost is $50 for an individual, $90 for a two-person relay team and $135 for a three-person team. Participants also may sign up for the Flamingo Feat distance of a 1,600-yard swim, 18-mile bike ride and 6-mile run. Registration: or

Badminton tourney

April 20-21: The 9th Annual Baltimore Badminton Charity Open raises money for the American Red Cross. There are events for middle and high school players as well as adults and seniors. Play will be at the Northeast Regional Recreation Center (the former Perring Racquet Club) in Parkville and is open to the public. The men's event is closed but there are spots for women's, youth and senior events. Information:

April 27: Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association Central Maryland 6th Annual Race For Excellence, 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run. Benefits AFCEA's Central Maryland Scholarship Fund, which provides merit-based college scholarships to local high school students.
