Churchville woman, 19, killed in crash less than a mile from her home

A 19-year-old Churchville woman was killed Thursday morning driving out of her neighborhood.

Elizabeth Wald, of the 200 block of Whitefield Court, was declared dead at the scene of the crash at Rolling Road and Route 136, according to Sgt. Comer of the Maryland State Police at the Bel Air Barrack.

Around 6 a.m., Ms. Wald tried to make a left from Rolling Road onto Route 136 and failed to yield the right-of-way to oncoming traffic. Her 2001 Saturn LS was T-boned by a 1999 Ford F450 landscaping truck, police said.

Both vehicles came to rest against a utility pole about 100 feet north of Rolling Road, according to a State Police news release.

Edwin Lewis Bowman Jr., of Churchville, driving the F450, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital, according to the release.

Speed and alcohol are not considered to be factors, police said.

Route 136 was closed for about 2 1/2 hours. Traffic was delayed at about 9:30 a.m. as BGE replaced the utility pole.

Thursday's fatality was the fifth on Harford County roads in 2013. The county had 31 highway deaths in 2012.
