Auditions for 'Pippin'

Slayton House Theatre Conservatory will hold auditions Monday and Wednesday, April 8 and 10, at 4:30 p.m. for this award-winning play running July 8-Aug. 3 at 10400 Cross Fox Lane in Columbia. Information: 410-730-3987.

Fundraiser with Ray Rice

Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice will be the featured guest in a benefit event for The Arc of Howard County and the Ray of Hope Foundation being held beginning at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at Wegmans, 8855 McGraw Road in Columbia. Event includes a question-and-answer session, meet-and-greet opportunity and photo with Rice, as well as refreshments and a Ray Rice limited-edition T-shirt. Tickets are $100 each. The Arc provides a range of residential, employment and family support services for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. Information:

Quilt show

The Milltown Quilters hosts its bi-annual quilt show Thursday-Saturday, April 11-13, at First Presbyterian Church, 9325 Presbyterian Circle in Columbia. Show features more than 250 quilts as well as a raffle quilt, "Folk Art Goes Uptown," an original design by a members and constructed by more than 70 members. There will also be a special exhibit of quilts made by the Patuxent Institute of Women's Circle of Friends. In addition, there will be vendors, tables of gently used sewing items, a silent auction, our Sew Unique Shoppe of handmade items, and raffle baskets of goodies, including a chocolate lovers Basket. MESA competitions

The Maryland Mathematics Engineering and Science Achievement Program of the Howard County public schools will host the Regional MESA Day Competitions from 8:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Friday, April 12, at Capitol College, 11301 Springfield Road in Laurel. Information: 410-313-5619.

Housing fair

Howard County Housing will host its seventh annual "Come Home to Howard County" housing fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, at Long Reach High School, 6101 Old Dobbin Lane in Columbia. The event showcases information that individuals and families may need to know about buying or renting a home in Howard County.

This year's fair will offer attendees the chance to talk with real estate professionals, mortgage lenders and housing specialists, as well as county personnel who will be available to answer questions about county programs and services. The fair will also feature educational sessions, bus tours of county rental and buyer communities and prize give-a-ways. Free and open to the public. Information: 410-313-6318 or

Stress Awareness Day

A day of relaxation with herbal teas, seated yoga, meditation, brain stress relievers, acudetox and therapeutic laughter will be led by certified instructors, beginning at 9 a.m. April 16 at the Bain Center, 5470 Ruth Keeton Way in Columbia. Information: 410-313-7469.

Art exhibition, sale

The Maryland Art League will hold an exhibit and sale of original paintings and photographs at the Howard County Conservancy, 10520 Old Frederick Road in Woodstock. The exhibit, "The Art of Conservancy," runs through April 18. Hours are 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday-Saturdays. Information: 410-465-8877

Annual gala

The Domestic Violence Center of Howard County's fundraising Hope Gala will be held at 6:30 p.m. April 19 in the Great Room at Historic Savage Mill, 8600 Foundry St. in Savage. This year's theme is Creating a New Legacy, and the event honors Pam and Guy Guzzone. Event features food, music and a silent auction. Proceeds support comprehensive services at the center, which include 24-hour help lines, emergency and transitional housing, counseling, an abuser intervention program, legal assistance and free community education programs. Fashion show

The American Association of University Women's fashion show and sale, "Let's Go On A Vacation," takes place beginning at 1 p.m. April 27 at Vantage House, 5400 Vantage Point Road in Columbia. Event features fashions provided by Lord and Taylor of Columbia and accessory boutique items for sale. Tickets are $20 per person. Proceeds benefit the organization's scholarship fund. Annual luncheon
