Boys Athlete of the Week: Conor Cunningham, Hereford, lacrosse

For the past two seasons, the five-time defending state champion Hereford Bulls have used an effective one-two punch in the cage with senior Conor Cunningham playing the first half and junior Brock Turnbaugh coming in for the second. Last Wednesday against then-No. 2 Gilman, the Bulls' coaching staff played a hunch and kept Cunningham in for the entire game. It proved a worthwhile decision. Cunningham was brilliant throughout, finishing with 17 saves to carry the then-No. 8 Bulls (now No. 5) to a 7-6 upset win. Cunningham also helped the Bulls capture the Fred Sheckells Tournament at Fallston on Saturday. He recorded six first-half saves in an 11-5 win over Northern in the opening game and six more in the first half of the Bulls' 12-4 win over the host Cougars in the title game. Cunningham, a four-year starter, has committed to Hofstra.

Others considered: Rayshawn Clark, New Town, lacrosse; Raymond King, Edgewood, track and field; Matt Marinelli, Marriotts Ridge, baseball; Keifer Rawlings, St. Paul's, baseball; Julian Woods, Century, track and field.
