Anniversary celebration

The Columbia Baptist Fellowship celebrates its 40th anniversary Saturday-Sunday, April 6-7, at Oakland Mills Interfaith Center, 5885 Robert Oliver Place in Columbia. A reception with hors d'oeuvres and displays begins at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, followed by a catered dinner at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Jim Hamblen, founding pastor, will preach at a special worship service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Ballet auditions

Ballet Mobile will hold open auditions at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at the Howard County Center for the Arts dance studio, 8510 High Ridge Road in Ellicott City. Dancers ages 10-60 are welcome. Information: 410-382-1377.

Art exhibition, sale

The Maryland Art League will hold an exhibit and sale of original paintings and photographs at the Howard County Conservancy, 10520 Old Frederick Road in Woodstock. The exhibit, "The Art of Conservancy," runs through April 18. Hours are 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday-Saturdays. Information: 410-465-8877

Auditions for 'Pippin'

MESA competitions

The Maryland Mathematics Engineering and Science Achievement Program of the Howard County public schools will host the Regional MESA Day Competitions from 8:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. April 12 at Capitol College, 11301 Springfield Road in Laurel. Information: 410-313-5619.

Fashion show

The American Association of University Women's fashion show and sale, "Let's Go On A Vacation," takes place beginning at 1 p.m. April 27 at Vantage House, 5400 Vantage Point Road in Columbia. Event features fashions provided by Lord and Taylor of Columbia and accessory boutique items for sale. Tickets are $20 per person. Proceeds benefit the organization's scholarship fund. Annual luncheon

The Audrey Robbins Humanitarian Awards Luncheon, where the Association of Community Services of Howard County honors volunteers and staff for their service to the community, will be held at noon May 3 at the Ten Oaks Ballroom, 5000 Signal Bell Lane in Clarksville. Camp volunteers

The Howard County Arts Council is accepting applications for volunteers for its Visual and Performing Arts Summer Camps. Applications can be downloaded from the "Getting Involved" page of HCAC's website at Duties of the unpaid position include preparing classrooms and materials for the day's activities, supervising campers in art-related activities and monitoring campers during breaks, lunch times, etc. Volunteers must be 15 years of age by Sept. 1. Camps will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 24-August 16. Hours for volunteers vary.

Recycle bedding

The Department of Public Works has announced that residents may drop off mattresses and box springs of all sizes at the Alpha Ridge Landfill in Marriottsville for recycling. Items must be dry, and residents are responsible for unloading their vehicles.

Residents may still schedule mattresses and box springs for bulk trash pickup by calling 410-313-6444; however, they are encouraged to bring these items to the landfill for recycling. The Alpha Ridge Landfill is at 2350 Marriottsville Road and is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Information:

Free tax help

Appointments for income tax preparation for county residents are being taken at county senior centers. Electronic filing is available at no charge. Service is available to middle- and low-income taxpayers, with an emphasis on those 60 and older. Clients should bring 2011 federal and Maryland tax returns and 2012 tax records to the appointment. Self-employment returns with more than $5,000 in expenses and very complex returns are not eligible. Evening and weekend appointments are available at some sites.
