Orioles lineup notes: Kevin Gausman, Nick Markakis, Miguel Sano

March 26, 2013|By Dan Connolly | The Baltimore Sun

The Orioles make their final road trip of the spring today -- and it is to Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers, Fla., to face the Minnesota Twins.

This will be Kevin Gausman’s last start for the Orioles this spring before heading to minor league camp. He’ll be facing most of the Twins' regulars, but the most intriguing matchup will be Gausman versus another highly touted minor leaguer, Twins third baseman Miguel Sano.

Sano, 19, is considered a Top 10 player on many prospect lists. The Orioles were close to signing the Dominican teenager when he agreed to a $3.15 million bonus with the Twins.

Gausman, the Orioles’ top pick in 2012, is a Top 50 prospect on most lists.

The other thing to pay attention to in Tuesday’s game: Nick Markakis (neck) is playing in a Grapefruit League game for the first time since March 1. He’ll bat first and DH.

Here are the lineups:

Orioles: Markakis DH, Roberts 4, Jones 8, Davis 3, Wieters 2, Hardy 6, McLouth 7, Reimold 9, Machado 5. Gausman 1.

Twins: Hicks 8, Dozier 4, Willingham 7, Morneau DH, Doumit 2, Sano 5, Parmalee 3, Ramirez 9, Florimon 6. Hendriks 1.
