American Cancer Society

Organization needs volunteers in the Gambrills office to help with general administrative tasks, including but not limited to phone calls, mailings, etc. Information: 410-721-4304 or email

Animal control

The agency needs volunteers for hands on interaction with animals, showing animals to prospective clients, assisting customers, answering phones, filing, photography and multimedia tasks. Applicants must be 18 or older, able to meet the 16-hour-per-month requirement of volunteer service hours and prepared to comply with all volunteer policies at the agency. Information: 410-222-8900.

Alzheimer's Association

Volunteer opportunities include office and clerical assistance, including data entry and mailings; community outreach representatives, including those to attend health fairs and speakers; help line specialists; and family support group facilitators. In addition, volunteers are needed to assist with fundraising events such as Walk to End Alzheimer's, galas and charity golf outings. Training and materials are provided. Annapolis Opera

Volunteers, 16 and older, are needed to help with publicity, school outreach, ad sales, performance support, bookkeeping, computer work, receptions, support for the vocal competition and auditions and more. Information: 410-267-8135 or

Visitor Center

Volunteers are needed at the West Street Visitor Center and City Dock Booth to provide visitors with knowledgeable, appropriate and current information. Help is also needed for computer data entry. Completion of a training program and a three month provisional period is required of new volunteers; participation in ongoing training and continuing education is required for all volunteers. Salvation Army

Volunteers are needed to drop off donations Monday through Friday for Salvation Army food pantries in Annapolis and Glen Burnie. Suggested items include nonperishable canned goods and boxed food; toiletries are also welcome. Groups that hold food drives can make arrangements to have the food picked up. Speakers, Tutors, Achievement, Retention, Success (STARS) needs men and women to work as mentors and/or tutors to students ages 16 to 24. Wildlife sanctuary

The Davidsonville Wildlife Sanctuary treats and cares for injured and orphaned animals and, if possible, releases them back into the wild. Volunteers who can commit to working at least one morning a week are needed to feed, water and clean animals. Information: 410-798-0193 or
