Roundup: Calvert Hall's Witczak one-hits John Carroll

Senior left-hander Andrew Witczak pitched a one-hitter over six innings as No. 1 Calvert Hall routed visiting John Carroll, 9-0, in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Athletic A Conference baseball opener for both schools Tuesday.

Robbie Jones was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs for the Cardinals, while Alex Murphy was 3-for-3 with a triple.

Boys lacrosse

Boys' Latin 13, Gonzaga (D.C.) 4: Colin Heacock scored five goals and Shack Stanwick had a goal and four assists to lead the host Lakers (4-0), ranked No. 1 in the Mid-Atlantic Under Armour regional poll, past the Eagles.

Gilman 17, Haverford (Pa.) 13: Tyler Ruhl had five points (three goals, two assists) to lead the host Greyhounds (2-0) past the Fords (0-2).

Haverford's first four games are against MIAA A Conference opponenets.

John Carroll 17, Annapolis Area Christian School 4: Sully Geredy scored five goals to power the host Patriots (1-1) past the Eagles.

Girls lacrosse

McDonogh 12, St. Paul's 7: The Eagles (3-0) extended their winning streak to 72 games.

Maryvale 10, Mount de Sales 9, 2OT: Amanda Bochniak completed her hat trick with the game-winner to lift the Lions (2-0) over the Sailors.

Maryvale's Sydney Hesselbein (two goals) scored the game-tying goal with two minutes left in the game to force overtime.

Mercy 7, Friends 3: Tori Bruno scored twice to lead the visiting Magic (2-0) past the Quakers.
