Beltway plaza mall offers free lunch, movie to furlough workers

If you have been furloughed as a result of the government sequester, Beltway Plaza Mall has a suggestion on how to spend you time off.

Starting today and running through April 29th, the Greenbelt mall is offering furloughed workers the chance to see a movie and get lunch, fruit and a cookie — for free.

You must present your furlough notice from your employer, which includes the name of the employer and dates of the furlough to the Academy 8 Theater box office to receive coupons for the freebies.

The free food is courtesy of Dominican Restaurant, Three Brothers, Subway, Bun Cafe, El Taco Rico, Heavens Bakery, Home Pretzel and Fabulous Food.

“We think a free lunch and a movie will take their minds off the fact that they’ve been furloughed from their jobs,” said Marc Kapastin of Quantum Cos., which manages the mall, in a statement.

That is, of course, unless the movie is “Up in the Air.”

The mall is near NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center and many defense contractors, the mall folks note.
